Alison Loat is the co-founder of Samara Canada (www.samaracanada.com), a non-partisan charity dedicated to reconnecting citizens to politics, and the co-author of the #1 best-selling book Tragedy in the Commons. Samara’s work was used to develop federal legislation on democratic reform, to improve politics curricula, for the orientation of newly elected MPs, and for initiatives to improve citizens’ participation in politics.
For her public service work, Alison received the Queen’s Gold and Diamond Jubilee Medals and was named to the World Economic Forum’s Young Global Leaders in 2014. She also worked at McKinsey & Company, the Government of Canada, the MaRS Discovery District and was a founder of Canada25. Born and raised in St. Catharines (daughter of CFUW member Trish Loat), she is a graduate of Queen’s University and the Harvard Kennedy School.
